Hikifurisode in Black Yellow and Orange

$195.00

furisode (振袖, "swinging sleeves") is a style of kimono distinguishable by its long sleeves. A hikifurisode refers to a long-sleeved (furisode) kimono with a dragging (hiki) hem. It is also called ‘ohikizuri’ (dragging kimono). The trailing part of the kimono is an elegant touch for stage performance or dancing, and the non-silk body of this hikifurisode may mean it was intended for noh theatre or another type of dancing or performance.

This hikifurisode has a black background with floral motif in kiku, or chrysanthemum. The floral motifs are presented in clusters starting around the shoulders and trailing directly to the hem. The chrysanthemums are presented in complementary shades of orange and purple, with lighter highlights using a less saturated color from the same family. There is a lavish amount of gold stitching on this hikifurisode, outlining the floral motifs. The trailing hem is rich red, which is the same color as the inside of the hikifurisode. The condition of the hikifurisode is excellent and presents like new.
