This is a ro silk Nagoya obi with a classic summer carp and stream motif. Woven of a medium textured ro silk with a tan, natural color, embroidery of orange and black carp decorate the obi. Carp Is a very popular motif, and pieces tend be expensive. The carp motif is auspicious: the Japanese consider the carp as the most spirited of fish—so full of energy and power that it can fight its way up swift-running streams and cascades. Because of its strength and determination to overcome all obstacles, it stands for courage and the ability to attain high goals.
Condition
There is some staining due to age, and close pictures of that have been included in detail. Ro silk and embroidery will wash well, and this obi may be a good candidate for a gentle wash. It has a slight but big stain on 'tare'(wide end), and light purple stains on the folded triangle.The lining has a seam and a small hole.
