Pine Tree and Tsuru Uchikake
Pine Tree and Tsuru Uchikake
Pine Tree Uchikake
Uchikake (打掛) is a highly formal kimono worn only by a bride or at a stage performance. Japanese bridal wear most often combined the auspicious patterns of turtles and cranes with pine trees, plum blossoms, and bamboo. This wedding uchikake, however, features a phoenix, the most common pattern for Chinese bridal ensembles. The uchikake, or outer robe, is worn unbelted and trails along impressively behind the wearer. This particular Uchikake combines hand painted silk, gold accents, saturated color, with embroidery.
